A fragrant, sweet pie is unlikely to leave anyone indifferent. However, sometimes things in the kitchen don’t go according to plan. Most likely, many are familiar with the situation when a pie is about to turn black on the outside while remaining raw on the inside.
But there’s no need to get upset prematurely – everything can be fixed. Below, Admigram.com will share what to do if your pie is undercooked inside. Believe it or not, even in the direst situation, you can rescue the most hopeless baking!
What to do if the pie is undercooked inside
Saving an undercooked pie
So, if you’ve still made a mistake and your pie is already too brown on the outside but a bit undercooked inside, you simply need to try baking it at a lower temperature. Reduce the temperature to 320°F (160°C), and cover the pie with a suitable material (parchment paper, aluminum foil) that can withstand such temperature. Wait for about 20 minutes, and everything will be ready.
What else to consider to prevent an undercooked pie
Sometimes a pie is undercooked because you forgot to add something or changed the arrangement, meaning you didn’t follow the recipe correctly. Additionally, a pie might brown on top but remain undercooked inside due to the quirks of your oven. It just operates that way. Therefore, you need to know the “personality” and nuances of your oven or strive to learn them as quickly as possible.
For example, you can start by placing the pie not too high in your oven but at the very bottom. The dough will rise better there, and it will cook better from the bottom. After that, you can move the pie up higher, to where it should be during baking. On the upper shelf of the oven, it will bake on top and additionally brown.
Furthermore, if the inside of the pie is still undercooked, you can slightly reduce the heat, place a pan with water on a lower shelf, and continue baking the pie. Also, brush the top with milk. The pie will continue to bake for another 10 or 15 minutes, and the moist air will help it bake better.
If your oven refuses to properly bake the pie from the inside, it’s better to buy a special cake pan with a hole in the middle. These cake pans are very helpful. And finally, if the issue truly lies with the oven and you bake frequently, it might be best to get rid of the troublesome oven and purchase a new one.
