1. Turn off electrical devices at night. Computers, televisions, and other appliances left plugged into an outlet can draw “phantom load.” Unplugging them can save anywhere from 50 to 100 watt-hours overnight. Now multiply that by the number of houses in the world.
2. When brushing your teeth or shaving, turn off the water. Most of us overlook this, which wastes at least 5 gallons (20 liters) of water per day.
3. Print on both sides of the paper. You can easily cut your office paper consumption in half by utilizing double-sided printing.
4. Go vegetarian at least once a week. Producing meat requires far more energy and natural resources than producing vegetarian food.
5. Forget about paper napkins and towels. Yes, some of them are made from recycled materials, but not all. Producing them actually consumes more wood than printing books and newspapers.
6. Don’t litter. Anything tossed outside a trash can may take up to a million years to decompose in soil or water. And that’s the best-case scenario — if it’s not toxic.
7. Install water-saving showerheads. This will save not only water but also the electricity needed to heat it. Plus, your bills will be smaller.

8. Plant a tree. If each of us planted just one tree a year, there would be nearly 5 billion more trees in the world.
9. Don’t hesitate to buy second-hand items. Second-hand doesn’t mean bad; in many cases, it could be practically new. This also helps the environment.
10. Avoid using disposable tableware. Forget about plastic tableware, even if you absolutely hate washing dishes. With the money saved, buy a beautiful porcelain set.
11. Install “smart devices” in your home. They not only save electricity but also make your home feel more efficient and modern.
12. Send your electronics for recycling. Every year, we throw hundreds of thousands of gadgets into regular trash bins. It’s incredibly toxic! And recycling gadgets is not that difficult.
13. Don’t throw away unwanted items right away. Anything you own, even the oldest thing, might be useful to someone. This also conserves resources used in its production.
14. Switch to electronic documents. We live in the era of artificial intelligence, so it’s almost embarrassing to still use paper documents. Choose an electronic document — save a tree!
15. Share this knowledge. Everyone should understand that they can make a significant contribution to the preservation of our planet, even just by reading all of this. Let’s make the world a better place!
