To drink or not to drink – that is the question! And to justify our drinking, we come up with all sorts of myths and excuses. What’s even sadder is that the media constantly publishes articles claiming that alcohol in small doses is actually good for you.
It’s time to face the truth and debunk the most persistent myths we use to reassure ourselves before having another drink. AdmiGram.com exposes the five most dangerous myths about alcohol that you probably still believe.
To Drink or Not to Drink: Myths, Truth, and Lies About Alcohol
Myth #1: Butter Will Prevent Me From Getting Drunk

I’ll eat a piece of butter or drink some olive oil a few hours before the party, and I won’t get drunk.
Oil won’t save you from getting drunk — it will only put extra strain on your pancreas. Relying on fatty foods to offset alcohol is a dangerous habit. A large amount of butter or olive oil can easily cause diarrhea or vomiting. Fat doesn’t prevent alcohol from being absorbed in the stomach — it only adds to the damage alcohol does to your digestive system.
Myth #2: The More Expensive the Alcohol, the Less Harmful It Is to Health

I prefer only premium alcohol because it has a positive effect on a person.
Price is not an indicator of the quality or safety of alcohol. Consumption of any type of alcohol should be moderate and mindful. It doesn’t matter whether you drink plain vodka or expensive single-malt Scotch whisky — the alcohol itself affects your health, well-being, and mood the same way.
Myth #3: Beer, Shandy, Cider – It’s Not Alcohol

For me, a couple of bottles of beer a day is normal and safe.
Even a glass of beer a day can quietly turn into a habit. Not to mention that some of us prefer several bottles of low-alcohol drinks instead of one strong one. The problem is that low-alcohol beverages make it easy to lose count — you often end up drinking more overall than you would with your usual alcohol. Some research suggests this can make low-alcohol drinks just as risky as regular alcohol, simply because people drink more of them.
Myth #4: There Are Proven Ways to Deceive the Police and Breathalyzers

Even if I’ve had a bit more than the norm, I’m still okay!
Unfortunately, men are wired in a way that after drinking, they feel like a real Superman. The problem here isn’t whether you can fool a police officer or a breathalyzer, but the consequences that can follow. A car accident happens in the blink of an eye — one moment that can ruin your life forever.
Myth #5: Strong Coffee Can Easily Sober You Up

Coffee in the morning is the best remedy for a hangover.
Unfortunately, this doesn’t actually work — it only adds to the strain alcohol puts on your body. Alcohol is a poison your body is trying to expel. What you need in the morning is quiet rest in bed and plenty of water. Loading your heart with caffeine on top of that is one of the fastest paths to a heart attack.
