Nara Dreamland is an abandoned amusement park in Japan. The extensive construction of the amusement park was completed in 1961 right next to the city of the same name. According to the park’s owners’ plans, it was supposed to become a true Japanese “Disneyland” and even outshine it with its grandeur.

No expense was spared in building the facilities: a railway depot, a Sleeping Beauty castle, and famous roller coasters were built for the park. Nara Dreamland had plenty of its own unique attractions, such as around a hundred anime character figurines. However, in 2006, the park was closed due to tax problems and, eventually, abandoned.

The San Zhi Houses, also known as Sanzhi UFO Houses, were a series of unusual and bold architectural structures in the Sanzhi area of Taiwan. They were conceived as a resort complex in the late 1970s, but construction was interrupted due to financial problems and mysterious fatal incidents at the construction site.

During the height of the credit crisis in the 1980s, it was decided to dismantle and sell all the miracle houses, but cases of construction workers’ deaths resumed. Superstitious Chinese people decided not to anger the gods anymore and left everything as it was. Today, the “flying saucers” evoke a sense of some unknown presence, as if they testify to a bridge to another dimension.

The Maunsell Sea Forts, resembling rusted AT-AT machines from Star Wars, are defensive structures located off the coast of Cornwall County in England. They were built in the 19th century and were originally intended to defend against foreign invasions. As we can see, they were built to last, as they still stand in the water, entrenched like fortresses.

Erected in this manner, they create a mysterious and eerie appearance, embodying the strength and grandeur of heroic British defense. Local residents tell stories that during severe weather, mysterious cries can be heard from the towers. As if the spirits of long-deceased British soldiers are battling the storm.

It was planned for “Wonderland” to become the largest entertainment center in all of Asia. For this purpose, the construction of the park was permitted right next to the Chinese capital. The extensive construction work on the entertainment infrastructure began in 1998. Unfortunately, soon a conflict arose between developers and farmers who refused to sell their property.

Long lawsuits ensued, and construction was frozen. Ten years later, an attempt was made to negotiate and resume construction of the park, but in May 2013, all unfinished and abandoned structures were demolished. Today, in the place of “Wonderland,” there is only a huge lonely castle amidst a cornfield, reminiscent of the magical land of Oz by L. Frank Baum.

This long-forgotten gigantic vessel got permanently stranded in Homebush Bay, on the southern shore of the Parramatta River, not far from Sydney, Australia. During World War II, the SS Ayrfield, originally built for coal transportation, was used by American forces as an ammunition transporter.

After the war, the ship was moored in Homebush Bay and abandoned, becoming a deserted “floating forest,” within which trees grew. Today, the ship is completely overgrown with mangrove thickets. SS Ayrfield is particularly beautiful at sunset, a testament to nature’s triumph and transformation of everything once created by man.
