About dreams and thirty-seven years
My sister brought home a little pink feeding bowl for a kitten.
— So… — Mom understood right away. — This is never going to happen! — her hands went to her hips, and her eyebrows formed stern arches.
My sister silently marched to our bedroom and put the bowl by her bed.
— Where did you get the money? — Dad knocked on the door and entered.
— Saved up from the allowance you and mom gave me, — my sister explained evasively.
— And how long did you save? – dad took the bowl from under the bed and began to spin it in his hands.
— Well, about three or two months, just bit by bit!
— I see, — dad shrugged. — So, our eldest daughter has been dreaming of a cat for three months.
— I’m dreaming too! Really! — I decided to join the conversation, somewhat melancholically. — I’ve been dreaming for a whole week!
It sounded somewhat sad, but the three of us laughed for some reason.
— Alright, dreamers, dreaming isn’t harmful! Now everybody, to the table! — mom walked into the room and called us all for lunch.
And then, as always, after finishing homework with my sister, we sat on the floor in the living room and played. Dad drank his strong favorite coffee and read the fresh newspapers.
— Listen, – I turned to my sister, slightly lost in thought, not yet fully recovering from our math homework. — If we add up all your three months and my seven days, it turns out that tomorrow will be exactly 100 days since we’ve been dreaming about a cat. Isn’t that right?
My sister sighed gloomily, and grumbled something in response.
— Yeah, exactly one hundred days, — our dad sighed sadly. — And if we add my 37 years to that, how many days will that be?
I thought about it and tried to calculate it in my notebook. But somehow it didn’t work out. And then, after watching TV cartoons, we were put to bed.
And in the morning, our dad left early somewhere. He came back and immediately called all of us to the hallway.
— Here… — dad said awkwardly when we all gathered. — This morning I added up all the days, and it turns out we’ve been dreaming about the same thing for exactly 13,614 days… As of this morning!
We didn’t understand anything, and dad carefully opened his coat and pulled out from under his armpit a completely snow-white kitten with sparkling blue eyes.
My sister and I were stunned and stunned to such an extent that we didn’t even shout “Wow!”
Our mom looked at dad strangely, folded her arms across her chest, smiled, and in a voice that wasn’t angry at all, said:
— Add my thirty-one years, you mathematician.
Mom opened the closet and pulled out from its depths a neck tag hidden there long ago, on which the inscription “Luna” was proudly displayed.
Dream! Always dream! If the dream is right, it will definitely come true!
