His real name isn’t Chuck or even Charles. Chuck Norris was born Carlos Ray Norris. The name “Chuck” came later — but the legend? That was there from the start.

He hasn’t lost a fight since 1968. All of Chuck’s few defeats happened early in his career. Out of 180 fights, he won 168, lost 10, and had 2 draws. The man is basically a real-life action figure.

He invented his own martial art. Sure, Chuck is a six-time world professional middleweight karate champion — but eventually, that wasn’t enough. So he created Chun Kuk Do, which translates to “The Universal Way.” Because of course he did.

He taught Steve McQueen karate. Yep, Steve McQueen was one of Chuck’s students — and he’s the one who encouraged Chuck to try acting. They were both friends with Bruce Lee, and even served as pallbearers at Bruce’s funeral. Chuck also trained Donny Osmond, but Donny stuck with music.

If Chuck Norris is quiet, be on alert. Chun Kuk Do comes with a code of honor that Chuck lives by. One of its core principles: “If I can’t say something good about a person, I won’t say anything at all.” When Chuck goes silent… maybe you should worry.

Chuck Norris exists in the World of Warcraft. That’s right. He’s so tough, he became an in-game character in World of Warcraft. Somewhere out there, Chuck Norris is probably roundhouse-kicking orcs for fun.

He’s the first Westerner to earn an 8th-degree black belt in Taekwondo. That happened in 1997. He also holds black belts in Judo, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and Tang Soo Do. Basically, your favorite action hero could only dream of being this skilled.

He earned his titles the hard way. Chuck served in the U.S. Air Force (1958–1962) as an Air Policeman. He was stationed in South Korea — where he began training in Tang Soo Do and Taekwondo. Later, he was named an honorary U.S. Marine and yes, an honorary Texas Ranger. Not just a nickname — it’s official.
