Story About The First Day At Work After Christmas

As it is known, prolonged and cheerful holidays can amazingly throw us off our work track. Some need literally whole weeks to get back into the usual work rhythm and not to do anything funny in front of their colleagues.

One of the New York taxi drivers told us this funny story about the first workday after the New Year holidays. AdmiGram.com retells it word for word to its readers. It’s impossible to read it without genuine laughter and a little embarrassment.

Story about the first day at work after Christmas

I work as an ordinary taxi driver, cruising along the city roads for over 30 years now. I’ve seen quite a lot in my life, and heard enough of human stories. Still, I’ll tell you that people are special during Christmas days. And sometimes, you yourself start believing in miracles. So, I’m driving along the ring road around Central Park when a girl around twenty-five jumps onto the sidewalk and vigorously waves her hand.

I naturally hit the brakes, thinking something might be wrong. She calmly hops onto the back seat, with such charm and tranquility, thanking me for picking her up. She quickly sends me the destination through the app and thanks me again. I glance at the rearview mirror to check if there’s anyone behind on the lane, and I notice that this girl is undoubtedly blessed with beauty. Ah, if only I were twenty years younger!

I stepped on the gas, and off we went. I cautiously glanced at the beauty, trying not to let her notice my eyes in the rearview mirror, when she says, ‘Hey! Are you going to be silent forever?’ To say I was flabbergasted would be an understatement. I felt like a schoolboy on his first date, nervously grabbed the wheel, and barely squeezed out, ‘Hey, if you’re not kidding…’

But my passenger was clearly up to something and wasn’t stopping. ‘How are you, what’s your mood like? How did you celebrate Christmas?’ She kept chattering, literally leaving me speechless. What could I do? Because of such beauties, even old stumps like me flourish in winter! I muttered something in response, while nervously keeping an eye on the road, making sure not to run into anyone out of endorphin rush or jump the red light. I’m steering the wheel, but my attention is captivated by her smile and her eyes.

‘Let’s go somewhere after work, I feel so bored and lonely…’ Unexpectedly, my companion interrupts my awkward silence. Well, I’m not an immoral guy, even though I really liked her. I start explaining to her that I have a wife, and my kids are almost your age. Like, it’s not right for me, my dear. Forgive an old man. There are so many young and good guys around, why me?

And then the following happens… I look in the mirror, and my Snow Princess is peeking around with her eyes, then she nervously puts her hand to her cheek and says, ‘Jacob, I’m sorry, I just got into this taxi, it’s not convenient for me to talk right now, I’ll call you back…’

We laughed so hard, wiping away tears of laughter for the rest of the trip. Well, I just can’t get used to these wireless technologies, no matter what!
