Everyday Phrases That Sounded Insane 30 Years Ago
Thirty years ago, someone would probably point at the mailbox in your front yard and ask, “Since when does that thing have a password?”
Back then, it sounds like you’re shopping for extra brain cells so you can play soccer better.
People would’ve wondered where exactly the phone booth was hidden among the trees.
Orcs? Castles? These days, that’s just another MMO player making weekend plans. Thirty years ago, people would’ve been convinced you’d gotten far too lost in Tolkien’s world and probably needed professional help.
Listening to… a book? Most people would’ve assumed the book was talking back.
Years ago, cold hands had nothing to do with conversations. Unless you were carrying a 30-foot phone cord through a snowstorm.
Deleted… music? People would’ve assumed you somehow erased every CD, cassette, and radio station on Earth.
Imagine explaining that to someone in 1995. They’d picture you losing repeatedly to a beige landline phone with giant plastic buttons.
Today you’re talking about bad cell reception. Thirty years ago, it sounds like your friend literally vanishes every time they take a step.
Without context, it sounds less like a speaker system and more like you’re buying someone an entire Broadway production.
